Role summary / Role purpose

 

This is a significant new role with one of the most successful web brands in the UK. The Metrics Analyst is responsible for determining the appropriate measures and associated metrics for TSL’s sites, then planning and implementing metrics collection, analysis, documentation, and communication to stakeholders and customers.

You will research, report on, and provide insights into, the experience of the sites' users, then turn this data into actionable recommendations to accomplish business and user objectives. You will work closely with the company’s business development department to leverage this data in the most appropriate way.

 

You will also work to engage the business in the development of the online channel, promoting the importance of user-orientated functionality and data-driven decision making.

 

You will also work closely with the web department’s producers and the in-house technical team to devise and implement methods to improve site usability and effectiveness, and to measure that improvement.

 

Your time will be spent analysing how visitors interact with the web site. You will be focused on spotting trends, and backing up recommendations with data. The job will be divided between performing website analysis, and also working with development teams and business stakeholders (up to board level) to ensure that the third-party web analytics tool is fully integrated into the site and that the technology is being exploited to its full potential.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

·         Develop, implement and manage the ongoing support of web marketing metrics and analytics dashboards to provide reports on web usage. You will review customer data regularly and coordinate with other teams to create, and measure, ongoing site improvements

·         Develop an understanding of the key business and financial drivers that determine the TSL’s success and aligns measurement activities with those drivers.

·         Produce and present to the senior leadership team metrics plans, estimation reports, and/or metrics reports as top-line summaries coupled with more detailed reporting and interpretation, as required.

·         Proactively identify and address new reporting documents and processes. Proactively identify, correct and communicate data problems and inconsistencies.

·         Identify alternative solutions when existing systems or processes do not meet business or stakeholder needs.

·         Identify and track trends in metrics and be able to identify improvements to service based on usage and traffic patterns.

·         Educate and advise colleagues throughout the business on how to make the most of the available data and web analytics tools. This may entail helping to create and maintain self-service reporting functionality and ad hoc query capabilities for business users.

·         Take a lead role in owning the web analytics data. This will include helping to define site data collection tags on the websites and partnering with systems colleagues to ensure their optimal implementation

·         Be familiar with best-practice website design and usability standards to ensure the websites remain best in class in terms of customer usability.

·         Provide the main point of contact for the external supplier and be responsible for management of that external relationship.

 

Key requirements

 

Of graduate calibre the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a successful background in web metrics and analytics and will need to possess a basic fluency in all aspects of site development.

 

Candidates should have experience of working in a large-scale e-commerce environment or within a relevant market sector (ie education or recruitment). You should have strong analytical reasoning skills and an ability to mine data.

 

You should be fully versed in online analytics measures, terminology and applications (Site Stat, Omniture, Double Click preferred).

 

You should demonstrate experience in developing spreadsheets and databases for the capture, assembly, and graphical presentation of metrics; advanced Excel skills, including complex spreadsheets and data manipulation preferred.

 

You should be able to lead meetings and meet deadlines. And good presentation skills don't hurt either.
